Gabi, Max & Sonny

In the middle of winter, along the rolling farmland of Maryland, Gabi, Max, and Sonny welcomed me into their home — a warm, wood-filled space with a big porch, blue shutters, and all the cozy, lived-in charm you could hope for. Their earthy, inviting vibe set the tone for an unforgettable session.

Things kicked off when Sonny walked over to the record player to help Dad pick our tracks for the shoot. Some dancing ensued in the living room, followed by a series of photos on the soft, worn leather couch. Diesel the dog jumped on the coffee table — always ready to join the fun.

Next, we made our way into the kitchen for a snack, which became one of the most photogenic spots of the day. The wood cabinets contrasted beautifully with Gabi’s denim fit, and at one point, Sonny left to get his tractor and I followed. Mom and dad, still posed on the kitchen floor, started a spontaneous tickle fight. I heard their laughter pouring through the halls and sprinted back to capture it— a perfect snapshot of the love filling this home. Diesel followed us everywhere, her black-and-white spots adding a monochromatic touch to the photos, while the cat quietly climbed into a cabinet.

Max made a fire outside, and we wandered the land for a bit — we may have paid a visit to the neighbor’s chickens, who wanted nothing to do with us. Their rejection was disappointing, but Max’s attempts to wrangle them were absolutely worth the trip.

This family created a space — and photos — that felt alive, joyful, and full of love.
