Maryn & Company

Short for “Maryn, Billie, Cassidy, three dogs, two guinea pigs, one cat, a couple of fish, the backyard birds, the front yard garden snake, the neighborhood bunny, the bugs that live in the bug hut out front, and any and all other critters nearby.”

There is so much love and aliveness in this lovely home, which once belonged to Maryn’s grandmother, where they lived together for many years. Maryn’s physical radiance is undeniable, but it is her energy that truly stands out — she carries a tender presence paired with a ferocious, protective devotion to her babies and to every person (and animal) lucky enough to be cared for by her.

The natural light in this house was a photographer’s dream. Each room offered a different glow and an opportunity to play with the space in unique ways.

And play we did! Billie and Cassidy really enjoyed being able to roam around - we ended up landing on a few focal points based on the natural progression of their movement. A lot of the shoot was just giving them the chance to be silly. At one point, we pulled out some books, as we wanted the opportunity for some down time together. This gave the kids a way to still be themselves but in a more physically still way, which really added layer to the gallery and gave mom a chance to also relax.

Parents, I know how stressful it can feel to want your kids to “perform” for the perfect shot. Here’s the thing — nine times out of ten, it won’t happen. And what comes instead is always better. Because it’s real. It’s a memory of the time you did a family photoshoot, your kiddos crawling all over you like little monkeys, and you were a little annoyed, a little exhausted, and completely in awe of them.

I had the honor of photographing Maryn’s maternity session when she was pregnant with Billie — to now capture her beautiful, rambunctious, and perfect little family in this new chapter is an absolute privilege.
